Welcome to Healing NL, a directory of holistic practitioners and services for our province.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, we have a health crisis. It’s very disconcerting to be listed at the top of undesirable statistics, like highest number of heart attacks, most obese population, highest rates of cancer. We need help!
Fortunately, we have a growing number of holistic practitioners right here in the province, who are ready to support those on the path to wellness, offering services that are complementary to other health regimes.
What is “holistic”, you ask?
Holistic health means looking at different parts or different levels of a person, rather than focusing on an illness or a specific part of the body. It is about finding the source of a problem instead of focusing on the symptoms alone.
We are complex beings with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions. A holistic view means that we are interested in engaging and developing the whole person and consider how that person interacts with his/her environment. It can often emphasize the connection of mind, body, and spirit.
Take for example, someone who has a weight problem. In our society, the first thing that springs to mind is “Go on a diet!”
However, one size does not fit all when it comes to our dietary needs. What works for you may very well not work for me. That’s where a holistic nutritionist can be of assistance! Maybe that person is an emotional eater, turning to food when upset, and needs to change their mindset when it comes to food. A wellness or life coach can help with the underlying problem that triggers the emotional eating. Perhaps stress reduction is necessary, so sessions in something like reflexology, reiki, or Bowen Therapy could help. A naturopath can advise as to what supplements would help.
Members of Healing NL can help with many problems at many levels. As a community of practitioners, we are committed to helping others attain their optimal level of health. Visit the directory at www.healingnl.com to see who may be of help to you!
